It’s quite unusual to re-release an album and have the first official video ready 15 years after the original recording came out. Since its release in 1999, ‚American Football‚ has been credited as one of the most important emo records by numerous bands and increasingly it’s been referenced in a lot of reviews of new bands popping up in the US and in Europe. There’s an increasing myth around a band that has never really toured, never played in Europe and only ever recorded a handful of songs. But since

Last Thursday I was watching old rollerblading videos with my colleague after work. I owned one VHS tape back then and it’s up on Youtube. We started debating what kind of influences these kind of videos had on us musically. It’s quite fascinating that you really link music to visuals no matter if it was through an old VHS tape or early games like Tony Hawk’s or something. My god, how many people thought ‚Superman‚ by Goldfinger was the greatest song out there for one summer long? Podgora has nothing

I highly doubt that there are a lot of people out there who remember what it was like to spend your time outside with your friends instead of inside in front of a computer screen playing video games and stuff? Well I do recall that my father had a friend who was one of the first people I knew who had a computer. Don’t ask me what kind of computer it was, but he always tried to show us some kind of strategy game centered around Napoleon. It was on

This is definitely one of the best videos of last year. It tells such an angsty teenage story. But it refrains from going to sad and mellow. There’s all the clichés of American high-school love everybody knows from all the cheesy movies. The end is brilliant though – and even better is the ending. I am a big fan of Modern Baseball’s album, but without this video I don’t think I would have listened to it as much as I ended up doing. Great pop-punk with emo hooks and ‚Your

There are certain bands I can’t help but love. There’s also a certain kind of music that I always wanted to make, when I was a kid. I’d churn out all these stupid songs and imagined people singing along to them. I knew back then that my songs were never meant for the big stage, a small room would have done. Just a couple of people who’d understand what I was trying to say. That would have been cool. But I never got there with my music. Tigers Jaw have

Well hello there new song Sufjan! You’re giving us such pleasure. Who needs a proper video, when you can have a great new song and watch the small waves coming in at a stoney shore. This is the Sufjan we all started to love with his first albums. Heartwarming stuff!
Read More Daniel’s top 5+5 (no particular order) Hi. I`m the new guy. This was my 2013. 5 records I spent a lot of time with: 1. Modern Life is War – Fever Hunting (Deathwish/Indigo) The thing about reunions: most of them suck. Maybe my views are over romantic, but there are a lot of zombielike bands out there with lifeless merch, touring like undead and new songs that are absolutely brain damaging. They used to be good once, but decided to come back for the wrong reasons (also called: money). With

Brown aka Grey Reverend is a bit dull, I have to admit: I stumbled across the cover thinking „well, that’s a great photo“ and just gave it a listen. And it completely blew me away. This summer I was sitting at a beach in Portugal with „A Hero’s Lie“ on my headphones simply gazing at the sea and for a moment I was at peace with
Read More So 2013 is drawing an end. The sheer flood of releases is ebbing away and as per usual, people are compiling lists of their favorites throughout the year. For me it has been a very exciting year. The blog has grown over the first year of its existence. So happy birthday little baby. But it’s not only my baby anymore. I have the pleasure of welcoming two writers aboard who will help me publishing more stuff and will give you an additional angle to my boring self-loathing. So say hello
