Låpsley – Long Way Home

Finally it’s here. Låpsley has finished her first full length record. As regular readers of this blog, you should be familiar with the name and the music you can expect. If not, you have either been fast asleep for the past one and a half years, or you have no interest in music. Holly Lapsley Fletcher is not yet 20 years old, but she’s managed to play pretty much every important showcase festival in the past year (Eurosonic, The Great Escape, Reeperbahn) and as much a fan of her asRead More

Basement – Promise Everything

The days are long gone since Basement were actually playing basement shows, dragging their gear into shabby pubs and dubious venues. Since the Ipswich band officially split up in 2012 they became international legends of sorts. All of a sudden the band was back in 2014 and it seemed as if they were biggern than ever before. And it seemed as if everybody was waiting for the band to return. The new record Promise Everything is the first full length since the reunion and the band is aiming big. IRead More

Daughter – Not to Disappear

Most people remember Daughters’ debut album „If you leave“ from 2013. It was one of those records that left you (and definitely me) sobbing and sad after listening to it. Not only because of the themes and lyrics, which by themselves were depressing enough, but also because of the fragile sound of Elena Tonras’ voice and the voluminous sound created by Igor Haefelis’ guitars and Remi Aguilellas’ drum. This sound is also the reason why the trio gets often compared to The XX. Yet, I personally would not agree withRead More

Placebo – MTV Unplugged

So this is it apparently. My very first music review. Never did I think anyone would be interested in what my thoughts on music are, but as it turns out, I was wrong. So hey – in case you are the one person actually reading this: Thanks a lot mate. I really do appreciate it. But enough of this sentimental nonsense- although in some ways music reviews are always sentimental nonsense – and lets focus on what you actually came here to read for – a review of Placebos’ MTVRead More

Alexis Blue – Tell Me Where To Go

I guess it is hard to write about music and bands when you have a really close connection to them, but then again, music is always subjective and very personal. So fuck it, right? Back in 2007 I moved to Liverpool to study. I spent three years there at John Moores University (rather a poli than a cunt, they say). And throughout those years, there were two bands that I closely connect to this time. One were the Wombats, local heroes who were just blowing up during my time there.Read More

Foals – What Went Down (Official Video)

Foals are back! What Went Down is a hell of a single! After an unexpected Facebook snippet, a BBC Radio One primetime premiere we finally have a visual for the song that actually makes the whole thing even tastier. I’ve got a longer history with this band, dating back to my time in the UK. Back then I ignored them. Even though their first two albums were good albums, looking back. But what really got me going was this song. And then there was this whole album proper rocking, properRead More
Well someone is back with a bang. I was listening to the last Maccabees record Given to the Wild on vinyl last night. I had almost forgotten how good this album was. But new track Marks to Prove It is a lot louder and noisier. Which is a slightly surprising change but nevertheless a good one in my opinion. Great video as well!Read More

Bad Ideas – Clumsy Hands (Official Video)

Ah well, how can you hate some rumbling bass, drums, guitars and a sweet voice? UK band Bad Ideas just released a new video for their song Clumsy Hands and the song has everything we need to forget about the crappy weather here in stormy spring. German label Uncle M is once again proving its great taste! All thumbs up.Read More

Låpsley – Understudy EP

Because you took something away from yourself Come back to this world and take your heart to higher shelf Is there such a thing as falling in love with a voice? Can you have a relationship with a person who you have never spoken to or seen in real life? I mean, can something like this really work? If it would, I’d totally fall for Holly Fletcher! The voice and brains behind Låpsley! Today she released her 4 track ‚Understudy EP‘ and heck, it is one brilliant piece of music.Read More
Apologies, I Have None’s debut „London“ is probably one of my favourite punkrock-something-records of recent years. So, naturally, I’ve been waiting for something new from then since basically the end of 2012. This friday (May 9th), the guys finally fulfill my wish: „Black Everything“, an EP with four new songs, will be out here in Germany as a pretty black 12″ LP (yeah, I know, the download is available for weeks already… shush!).Read More
