It was one of the hottest gigs I’ve ever been to. Witnessing Beatsteaks live at Reeperbahn Festival in 2014 was one of the things you probably won’t forget that easily. For those who don’t know Reeperbahn Festival, it’s basically the German/European equivalent of SXSW and it’s getting bigger with every year. The whole thing is centered around Hamburg’s famous red-light district where the Beatles learned their trade, where sex-shops are door to door with great clubs, where stag-dos cross paths with crooks, hustlers and the hip party crowd. There’s no
Read More In this installment of Talking Pop, author Carlo is talking about his love for Florence And The Machine. How she’s been haunting him since her first single and why music is always so closely connected to ones own biography. I’m sitting in my parents living room in 2009. The tv is on, and a Swiss television station is running. It’s sometime in the afternoon and instead of sitcoms or talkshows, they are showing music videos. There’s this one video with flowers in front of a white backdrop. A red haired
Read More By Alex, Carlo & Daniel A couple of weeks back, we talked about female bedroom producers and how they are the hottest stuff right now. We are still certain that that is true. And someone from the Independent must have read our article too, prompting this copy cat thing to pop up two days after our post. But the article got us thinking here at the WWATA-HQ: where else are female artists leaving their mark these days? So we dug into our own music catalogues looking for the same thing
Read More Sometimes I wonder just how much could change in only two years and how the hell it got to be this way A couple of years ago, I was still an intern at an indie record label in Berlin. I discovered Touché Amoré, La Dispute & Defeater for myself. I fell in love with hardcore and punk again. And I had a girlfriend back then. The summer at the label was great. It was my entry to the music industry that I still work in today. It was the first

AB Syndrom are back with their new video for ‚Jalousien‘. And it’s quite brilliant in its simplicity. When I was a kid, I was always scared of people being able to look into our bathroom when I was going to have a shower (well I wasn’t a kid, let’s say during my teenage years). I spent weeks fiddling around the Jalousien (the shutter) looking for the perfect blind spot. Either the shutters were set to too far down, or too far up. I was never really satisfied. AB Syndrom play

Well someone is back with a bang. I was listening to the last Maccabees record Given to the Wild on vinyl last night. I had almost forgotten how good this album was. But new track Marks to Prove It is a lot louder and noisier. Which is a slightly surprising change but nevertheless a good one in my opinion. Great video as well!

Ah well, how can you hate some rumbling bass, drums, guitars and a sweet voice? UK band Bad Ideas just released a new video for their song Clumsy Hands and the song has everything we need to forget about the crappy weather here in stormy spring. German label Uncle M is once again proving its great taste! All thumbs up.

Pup blew me away last year as I said before. But seriously, these guys are just amazeballs. Look at their video for ‚Guilt Trip‘ that’s been nominated for the Prism Prize, an award for Canada’s best music video. When you watch it, you can see why it’s been nominated. That’s definitely the stuff band legends are made of. I can once again just do nothing more but highly recommend this band and this music video!
Read More We are small, we are few It’s that time of the year again, where the music industry masses gather in Berlin to celebrate… well themselves basically. It’s Echo time. The German version of the Brits, or the Grammy’s but even by comparing the Echo to them, I’m almost insulting the other awards. But I’ll be attending again and I like the whole idea of dressing up, drinking together with everyone at the aftershow (yes, there’s only one aftershow party) and feeling really gash the next morning. But the awards show
Read More I invite you to my room, all the time There’s few places at the moment where music is as exciting as Philadelphia at the moment. The d.i.y. scene there seems to produce bands at an impossible speed. Mumblr are another one of those bands that just popped up on my radar (thanks to this article here). While London is still caught up in the post-dubstep flood of producers, New York is trying to figure out what their musical identity is and hipster Berlin is meandering through their newest hip-hop star,
